IRULA COMMUNITY - KUYILKUPPAM PROJECT

Kuyilkuppam is a village consisting of 63 Irula families. Irulas are traditionally snake catchers they live by collecting the poison and letting the snake back. They were living in thatched huts that leak during rain and utter poverty. Rotary Club of Madras Central, led by PDG AKS Abirami Ramanathan and his dream to provide them with good living space. A non transferable land deed was executed with the approval of the Government. Each house with 650 SqFt on 3.5 Cents land and all amenities. The total cost of 63 houses is around USD 900,000. This was realised through 3 Global grants, contribution of more than 50 % from PDG AKS Abirami Ramanathan. Balance amount was generated by RC Madras Central & several Rotary clubs and also from Public.

The project was officially handed over on 2nd Aug 2023 to the 63 beneficiaries by Honourable ministers of Youth Affairs & Sports and also Minister for Industries with presence of Member of Parliament, MLA & District Collector.
